The application fee for Kindergarten is £60 + VAT at 20%. Please note that whilst our Kindergarten tuition fees for children in Kindergarten One and Two are VAT-exempt, the application fee is for the paperwork/checking involved in taking on a pupil and therefore required to have VAT applied at the rate of 20%. This fee is non-refundable.
Block-booked before start of each term, for one to five days of the week
SeedlingsKindergarten (youngest 2-Year-olds) - ratio of 1 adult to five 2-year-olds.
Blackbird, Greenfinch, Acorn, Appleseed Kindergartens (2.5yo - 5yo) - cohort is up to 13 children with two adults
All fees above (including organic lunches at £3.50/meal / £623 for 2025/26) can be met through a Tax-Free Childcare account, reducing the cost by 20%
Kindergarteners aged 5yo* journey on to Treetops Kindergarten with their similarly aged peers at the beginning of the academic year. Treetops brings children from our four vertical-aged Kindergartens together, forming the following year's Class 1 cohort within a kindergarten environment. Class 1 begins at age six.
*4.5yo if an application for a further Kindergarten year is submitted to Edinburgh Council by the end of February. Deferred children typically are in Treetops for two years before joining the school.

The application form must be accompanied by the birth certificate and report from the child’s current nursery (where appropriate).
Edinburgh Steiner School is a Partner Provider of Scotland's 1,140 Hours ELC Programme, giving families access to a Waldorf early years education at no cost for up to 30 hours a week during term time, namely five days until 3pm during term time.
This provision includes an organic fresh lunch and snack.
All children living in Scotland become eligible the term after they turn 3; as well as a quarter of 2-year-olds and deferred 5-year-olds. Children need to reside in Edinburgh and be applying for five days until 3pm if you would like fees to be met through the ELC programme.
Kindergarten Waitlist
There are a limited number of funded places offered in our Kindergartens. Priority on the waiting list will be given to enrolled Acorn children and prospective pupils who meet one or more criteria.
