The application fee for Kindergarten is £60 + VAT. Please note that whilst our Kindergarten tuition fees for children in Kindergarten One and Two are VAT-exempt, the application fee is for the paperwork/checking involved in taking on a pupil and therefore required to have VAT applied at the rate of 20%. This fee is non-refundable.
Nursery Guide Edinburgh - 'Offering an important alternative to a formal desk-based classroom for young children aged 4 - 6; aligned with most international countries where school begins at age six or seven.
Upstart Scotland - campaigning for Kindergarten stage for first seven years
*The limited number of Deferred Early Learning & Childcare (ELC)-funded places are offered on a model of five days until 3pm during term time. A few places can be offered on a model of 3 days until 5.30pm. Offer Letters are provided up to six months ahead of enrolment. Places are first allocated to our enrolled Kindergarten children who intend to journey on to Class 1. The few remaining spaces are then allocated to enrolled kindergarteners and applicants according to our Waiting List Criteria.
**Our After Kindy Club is VAT-exempt and can also be met through a Tax-free Childcare account, reducing the cost by 20%
Early Learning & Childcare 1,140 Hours
Edinburgh Steiner School is a Partner Provider of Scotland's 1,140 Hours ELC Programme, giving families access to a Waldorf early years education at no cost for up to 30 hours a week during term time, namely five days until 3pm during term time.
This provision includes an organic fresh lunch and snack.
All children living in Scotland become eligible the term after they turn 3; as well as a quarter of 2-year-olds and deferred 5-year-olds. Children need to reside in Edinburgh and be applying for five days until 3pm if you would like fees to be met through the ELC programme.
Treetops Kindergarten Waitlist
There are a limited number of deferred funded places offered in our Kindergartens. Priority on the waiting list will be given to enrolled Acorn children and prospective pupils who meet one or more criteria.
Attending Blackbird, Acorn, Greenfinch or Appleseed Kindergarten does not guarantee a Deferred-ELC funded place in Treetops Kindergarten can be offered. Places are allocated first according to our Waiting List Criteria. Treetops children who have successfully passed their trial have a place reserved in Class 1.
To be added to the waiting list for enrolment in August 2026 and August 2027, please submit an application.
A separate application is required to be submitted to Edinburgh Council by 28th February to be eligible for a further year of a funded place in Treetops Kindergarten (4-year-olds with a mid August - 28th Feb birthdays only).
